Swedish roots, seafaring heritage

The GAC story started in 1956 when Swedish entrepreneur Bengt Lindwall signed an agreement with two Kuwaiti businessmen to form Gulf Agency Company to provide professional ship agency services in the country. Today, Kuwait’s Shipping License “No.1” is proudly displayed at GAC Kuwait’s office in Farwaniya.

Fond of quoting the phrase ‘Wer viel fragt, wird viel wissen’ (‘He who asks a lot will also know much’), Lindwall encouraged everyone to ask questions, confident that there are no stupid questions, all can be relevant and important. It was that open entrepreneurial spirit that led directly to the establishment of GAC over sixty years ago. Over the next decade, more offices opened throughout the Middle East as oil, shipping and logistics business there grew.

Global attitude, local action

In the 1970s, more GAC companies were established in the Eastern Mediterranean and Nigeria, and in Asia Pacific and the Indian Subcontinent in the ‘80s. Further expansion throughout Africa, Europe, the Americas, Central Asia and Australia followed in the 1990s and 2000s. Today, GAC is now a global group providing a wide range of integrated shipping, logistics and marine services.

GAC has been active in the country as shipping agents since 1988. In 1999 GAC entered into a Joint Venture to include logistics services, forming GAC Philippines, Inc. We provide a comprehensive portfolio of shipping and logistics services. In addition, we provide professional warehousing, distribution and 3rd Party Logistics (3PL) services throughout the country.

Protection & Indemnity

Representing International Group P&I Clubs since 1973, GAC is a recognised leader in the protection & indemnity field providing 24/7 incident and claims handling as well as medical assistance.

When something goes wrong with a ship, a port call or a cargo that could lead to a legal claim, a speedy response is critical from an effective P&I (Protection & Indemnity) correspondent. Time is of the essence to ensure the full investigation, documentation and analysis of any legal claim to assess and minimise any financial exposure as a result of an incident.

Leading P&I correspondent

GAC has represented International Group P&I Clubs since 1973. Today, we are now recognised as a leader in the field providing 24/7 incident and claims handling as well as medical assistance. We are also listed by all the 13 International Group Clubs in the Middle East region.

Our P&I team of experienced, dedicated claims handlers with considerable legal and technical expertise are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, all year round, to attend to incidents promptly and proactively. Their excellent relationships with local authorities, port officials, terminals and receivers are key in helping to expedite the handling of cases to reduce exposure and bring about the timely and equitable settlement of claims. GAC’s LoU (Letter of Undertakings) on behalf of P&I Clubs is accepted by most receivers, ports and terminals worldwide.

Medical support

GAC also acts as correspondents for the leading Medical Assistance Principals. Our excellent local knowledge and relations with local authorities, embassies and hospitals ensure that we can make the best arrangements for: medical evacuations, doctors’ visits, air and road ambulance transportation, liaison and follow-up with hospitals or clinics, hotel accommodation, special travel arrangements, visa requirements; repatriation of human remains, and medical escorts, where necessary.

Every year, GAC offices worldwide handle more than 3000 P&I claims and in excess of more than 2500 medical assistance cases.

Sea Freight

Our contracts with many of the world’s leading ocean carriers covering key trades to/from Asia, USA, Middle East, Europe and Africa enable us to offer the best deals for your cargoes. Shipments can be loaded into containers for shipment, either as FCL (Full Container Loads) or LCL (Less than Container Loads) for secure delivery. Our consolidation services offer an economical option for smaller loads.

Air Freight

GAC’s global air freight services delivers cargo to every location around the world served by an airport. Our global partnerships with major air carriers give you priority access to competitive rates and space allocations. The service can be door-to-door with the entire collection, customs clearance and delivery tracked by our secured tracking system, GACfreight. Consolidation and charter services are also available.

Sea/Air Freight

GAC pioneered the concept of sea/air freight services, as an option which offers you the best of both worlds with significant cost advantage and timely regular delivery. It’s a solution particularly well suited to the needs of fast moving industries dealing with low inventories such as electronics, fashion and footwear between Asia, Europe and the United States.Transfers are channeled through GAC's airport hubs in Dubai and Singapore, saving you substantial cost versus “all air” and time versus an “all sea” transit time.

Land Transportation

We work with our own fleet of general cargo and specialised trucks, lorries and carriers at many locations round the world – look out for the distinctive GAC logo and livery. And where we do not have our own vehicles, we work with carefully checked and monitored partners who meet GAC’s high standards.

Safety and security is paramount. All land transport services GAC provides – either using our own fleet and drivers or those of trusted partners – must meet the highest standards set out in the GAC Group’s HSSE Policy.

Project Logistics

Ship Spares Logistics

GAC Marine Logistics (GML) offers ship owners and management companies a global “door-to-deck” delivery service for ship spares and marine parts.

When a breakdown means a vessel needs a spare part in a hurry, it makes a difference to deal with an organisation with expertise in both shipping and logistics. Equally, having an efficient supply chain for routine maintenance spares and equipment is essential. GAC Marine Logistics (GML) offers ship owners and management companies a global “door-to-deck” delivery service for ship spares and marine parts. This specialised supply chain management service integrates the Group’s global infrastructure and expertise in freight forwarding, warehousing, supply chain management, ship agency, ship supply and marine and offshore support. GML chooses transport modes to match customers’ timing and cost concerns and takes responsibility for the entire supply chain.
